Institutional data for the Magazine Industry
The UK magazine industry is worth £8 Billion. 1 in 4 UK adults claim that they read fewer magazines now that they use the internet. The overall circulation for the UK consumer magazines industry in the year to July 2010 is 62,048,488 - a full 13.31m fewer than in the last half of 2009. There is still a big market for magazine but with better technology and internet magazine sales have been falling 1.3% year on year since 1998. This makes producing a new magazine especially for a niche market harder. This means that marketing and competitors need to be viewed closely and the new magazine needs to meet the target audience’s needs. 2,600 magazines are sold every minute of every day in the UK. People in the UK spend around 2.6 billion pounds on magazines every year. There are currently more than 3,300 consumer magazines in the UK. It would take just 30 minutes to sell the number of magazines needed to cover a football pitch.
