Institutional data for the UK music magazine Industry

The UK music magazine industry market has been declining since 2001 because of the increase in internet technology people aren’t buying as often because they can access all the information online for free. Some of the big music magazines such as Kerrang, Mojo, NME and Q are all part of the same publisher EMAP. The number of main branded music magazines sold in the UK currently stands at 500,000. In 2009 the UK music magazine industry was worth £3.9 Billion. Retail recorded music sales of £1.36 billion – flat year-on-year, reversing five years of decline. Live revenues of £1.54 billion, up 9.4% year-on-year. B2B revenues up 4.4% to £967 million. That includes royalty collections from businesses using music, direct licensing of music services, advertising and sponsorship. In fact, the overall pie has grown from £3.2 billion in 2007, to £3.6 billion in 2008, to £3.9 billion in 2009.
