Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Since my preliminary task consisting of a college magazine, I feel that my skills of development and design have improved when constructing magazines. I have learnt more techniques and discovered more features that are required to go in and develop a magazine and how to do different things with the software. Compare my original college magazine against my music magazine there are a lot more features and other representational aspects that reflect my target audience. These are expected in a magazine with also the layout and design of the magazine changing; I have learned how important the target audience are to the magazine.
I have learnt that certain features like the size and position of a photo on the front page are very important because this used to attract the reader’s attention. In my college magazine I didn’t realise how important the main image was, and how that can pull a reader in. Also other features on the magazine like the main title, this is to engage the reader’s attention and attract them to the magazine.
My final piece when through a more vigorous planning stage and I thought through all the design, layout and other features. The colour and the genre of the magazine are very important aspects and because of careful planning and consideration my music magazine has turned out a lot better compared to my college magazine. I developed skills which helped me create a more powerful front cover, detailed contents page and a good looking feature article.
